Human trafficking is the act of recruiting, transporting, or confining individuals in order to exploit them for profit, most commonly for sexual purposes or forced labour. This crime, which occurs in every corner of the world, can affect men, women, and children of all ages and backgrounds. It may occur in any culture, and victims of any age, ethnicity, gender, or nationality can be victims. Human traffickers are strategic in their victim recruitment. They may visit bus terminals, youth shelters, group homes, malls, to meet vulnerable young individuals. They may also target people online in order to conceal their identity while attempting to get personal information. Traffickers frequently target someone they know, such as a current or former partner, close relative, acquaintance, or colleague. To deceive and intimidate their victims, traffickers generally employ violence or bogus job agencies, as well as false promises of education and work possibilities. Human trafficking typically goes undiscovered since many individuals are unaware of the crime or what signals to look for. Victims are typically hesitant to take action against their traffickers, making it difficult to prosecute human trafficking cases. Human traffickers benefit tremendously. They pay their victims almost nothing for their labour while depositing the rest of the money. Human trafficking is a crime under Canada's Criminal Code and the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act. If there is kidnapping, sexual assault, violent assault, or death, the maximum sentence for instances involving adults is life in prison; in all other circumstances, the maximum penalty is 14 years.

A Canadian news story that describes the issue and how it affects individuals and Canadian society as a whole

According to Toronto police, the 17-year-old girl from Edmonton was recruited and transported to Toronto to engage in the sex trade once she turned 18. The child is said to have been trafficked in Toronto over the course of eight days and forced to sell narcotics. According to investigators, the money she made during this time was given to her traffickers. One of the men were charged with assault causing bodily harm and two counts of sexual assault. Implying that the young girl may have been physically and sexually abused by these men. The men who were charged in this case may have more victims around the same age. This issue affects young girls who may be promised false hope of a good paying job. Younger individuals are more likely to be targeted by these types of predators causing an unsafe environment. These women may deal with psychological issues and may struggle to rejoin society. Canadian society is significantly impacted by human trafficking. Beginning with the economy, Remittances cannot be sent by migrant workers who have been trafficked or smuggled into a nation. People forced into sexual acts may contract HIV/AIDS and other STDs, which could spread to the general populace of a country. This is one of the health problems associated with trafficking. A society's safety is also impacted by human trafficking. How can a society be safe if they have no idea what is taking place in their country because traffickers are able to smuggle hundreds of people every day?

They also prepare service providers on how to recognise and respond to signs of human trafficking. The policy of one of your political leaders (Liberal party of Canada, Conservative Party of Ontario, or John Tory) in relation to your issue.2021 Combating Human Trafficking Act, Bill 251. In February 2021, the Bill was introduced to combat human trafficking in Ontario. The province is required to maintain an Anti-Human Trafficking Strategy that is updated at least every five years. The bill requires hotels to retain a client record and document their names, addresses, and other required information. Allow police officers and First Nations constables to apply to a judge for a specific piece of a hotel guest registration on reasonable grounds in order to safeguard a trafficked person or someone at imminent risk of being trafficked. Amend the Child, Youth, and Family Services Act to increase the maximum fine and maximum imprisonment for anybody interfering with a child in social service care or hindering a Child Protection Officer or Peace Officer in the case of human trafficking.

Your personal take on the issue (how you see it impacting your community/country, personal connection, personal response to the issue).Every person, in my opinion, has a possibility to become a victim of human trafficking at some point in their lives. I think the government hasn't done enough to make sure that everyone is aware of human trafficking. Many of the pupils in my class were unfamiliar with the idea of human trafficking and how it works. This is detrimental since traffickers frequently prey on adolescents. 93% of trafficking victims are Canadian nationals, according to Covenant House. proving that, contrary to popular belief, immigrants are not the only ones affected by this problem. I believe that in order to assist those who are being trafficked, the government needs to create more jobs, policies, and resources. Human trafficking has a significant impact in my country, and it is only going to get worse. As a result of the government's harsh immigration policies, people seek illegal immigration. Human trafficking, defined as the recruitment, transportation, transfer, holding, concealment, and exercise of control over a person for the purpose of exploitation, was reported by Canadian police services 2,977 times between 2010 and 2020. Overall, human trafficking is an issue that will never be solved, but we as citizens should be educated on the subject to guarantee our security.
